a 111,445 sf complete renovation of an outdated two storey long-term care nursing home into a new seniors apartment building. The project included full demolition of all interior non load-bearing walls in the residential wings. The renovations included 112 new bachelor, one and two bedroom apartments with 17 assisted living units in a new 6,600 sf second floor addition. Amenities include a swimming pool, spa, hair salon, Doctors office, chapel, several lounges,
café, full commercial kitchen and dining facilities for 200 people, games room, a 20 seat theatre and self -serve laundry facilities. The project included a major redesign of exteriors.
The building was retrofitted in 2010 with Canada’s largest commercial solar cooling and thermal heating system. A project jointly funded by the Canadian and German governments. At a conservative estimate, the thermal liquid system will take 40% off the cooling load, 60% off the heating load and 90% off the cost of heating domestic water, for the swimming pool, showers and kitchen use.
